FAQs
What is cyclocross?
Cyclocross is the original off-road racing format that dates back to the early 1900s. A winter sport, it’s done on a closed-loop dirt trail/track and the contestants complete as many laps as they can in the specified race time. The track includes some obstacles and challenging features to test the riders’ skill and stamina.
What bikes are allowed?
The only restriction for the Mad Scramble is that no motorized (petrol or electric) bicycles will be allowed. Other than that, ride what you have that you believe will work best on this course.
Is the race still on if it rains?
The event will go on rain or shine. The first year we held the Mad Scramble we had rain, hail, and sunshine all in the same afternoon. We’re hoping for rain just to keep things interesting.
Will there be food available?
We will provide chili and corn bread for race participants and event volunteers for free. There will be a food vendor on site for additional food purchases.
Why is there no day-of-event registration?
This year we’re happy to announce we will be using the new state of the art timing system owned and operated by Redwood Coast Mountain Bike Association. Online registration helps streamline the process to avoid as many issues as possible on the day of the event.
Why don’t the kids have to register online?
The kids races are single lap and we will not be using the timing system for them.
